Does anybody know who this adorable like guy is?

So here’s a story for you all. So I was at Theo Katzman’s show on Friday & was hanging around wait for the show to start. Started talking to the girl next to me, we start talking about Glee. We’re talking about Darren (of course) and she goes, “A client of mine was actually in the Big Brother episode.” Intrigued I ask the obvious, “Who?” Her answer, “The little boy who played Young Blaine.” Turns out they didn’t actually ‘white wash’ Blaine, the little boy is mixed race, Native American & Japanese. And at one point they actually asked if he was willing to perm his hair!

This girl actually represented little ‘Cedes & little Santana too!!

This just still makes me so happy! No white washing! My hope for Lea Salonga as Mama Anderson remains intact!

GO PLAY THEIR MOM

The only person who wants Lea Salonga to play Mrs. Anderson more than the fandom is Lea Salonga.

She is simultaneously ONE OF US and also totes their mom.

Yeah it didn’t cross my mind at first but I can see why people would worry. But seriously, if they never cast Blaine’s mom, fine. But if they do and it’s not Lea? Such a waste, especially since she wants to do it!

Seriously. It would be such a shame casting anyone else for Blaine’s mom.

Let’s be honest, if they don’t cast her as Blaine’s mom Lea Salonga is going to be heartbroken.

Ssshh, Glee casting. You know you want to. She wants to. Your fans want you. Darren would piss his pants. etc.

just do it.

do it.

This like Idina Menzel being cast as Rachel’s bio-mom. It is fated. It is law. Let it happen.

It is written, Ryan Murphy. Submit to the inevitable.

regala-electra replied to your post: Oh I see there’s been some wank over casting Matt…

I couldn’t help pre-emptively ragging especially when I saw the “calm down, so what if Blaine’s white, Darren doesn’t look Asian” comments. I agree with you when I’m being zen and shit.

Yeah, luckily I wasn’t online when the news broke, so I missed all the wank and it’s taken me till now to realize. And yeah, it’s always offensive to me when people say “Oh well the person can pass as white so why bother casting non-white people as their family?” when it’s not like OMG it’s so hard casting people who aren’t white! Cause that’s bull.

Mostly I just saw this as sort of celebrity/stunt casting with someone who does actually look the part. Also I saw the news all together with Lea Salonga’s happy tweet about it so in my mind she was like “OMG my children are so pretty, yay!” Which may or may not be the case. Either way I hope they either never directly address it or just cast her as Blaine’s mother, because I really won’t accept anyone else. And why would they cast anyone else when they have a Broadway legend totally on board?

Oh I see there’s been some wank over casting Matt Bomer as Blaine’s brother because it implies white washing Blaine. Is it weird that it never occurred to me that this would somehow preclude Blaine being mixed race? I mean I still think Lea Salonga should be his mother (and I will rage if they cast anyone else). I mean I guess Matt Bomer could be a very white-passing half-Asian. If you squint. Or on the more thinky side Matt Bomer is in his 30s so they could easily say he and Blaine are half-brothers from his father’s first marriage or something.

All of which is to say I am excited by the casting of Matt Bomer, but yes it would definitely bother me if they used it as a reason to white wash Blaine’s entire family. Not the least of which because Lea Motherfucking Salonga is chomping at the bit to play Blaine’s mom. However until they actually cast Blaine’s parents or make it clear they’re white I will hold out hope that this won’t happen. If it does, then I will definitely get my rage on.

Oh hai, tumblr. I’ve kind of been giving myself a break from the internet the past… 36 hours or so. Overall I think it’s been a good plan.

Of course I come back to “Matt Bomer to play Blaine’s older brother” and Lea Salonga basically being all “Yay! Both my son’s are hot and talented! What I’m totally Blaine’s mother. You will pry that role from my cold dead hands!” Am I wrong?

Sheesh, Glee, just as I’m starting to pull away you know how to lure me back in. :P

I miss anything else relevant to my interests?

Presenting … Darren Criss

A few days ago, I received a surprising e-mail from “Glee” actor Darren Criss, asking if I’d be interested to sing “A Whole New World” with him at The Hollywood Reporter/Billboard Film & TV Music Conference.

Alan Menken (Oscar-winning composer who wrote the song) would be receiving a special award, and Darren had been tapped to serenade him. Then Darren tapped me to join in.

After checking my schedule (I had a cabaret performance scheduled for the evening so I needed to make sure I was available), I wrote him back and said yes.

Rehearsal

We were able to schedule a bit of rehearsal time, thanks to his manager Ricky, in a function room at the Renaissance Hotel in Hollywood. (Goodness we needed it.)

As reference, I had listened to a previous rendition he performed with Charlene Kaye, so at least I had that in my head. However, we had never ever performed together before, and I don’t think either of us wanted a less-than polished performance for Alan.

We went through the song at least five times, figuring out harmonies, accents, how long to hold this note or that.

We were then escorted backstage to wait for our cue. Alan was onstage fielding questions at the conference.

Wonderful moment

Darren was then called up to the stage to start a medley of hits from the various Disney movies that Alan had  scored and wrote music for, as well as a couple from his musical theater shows.

At the end, Darren then started to play “A Whole New World” and began singing. After his verses and chorus, he called me to join him. When Alan saw my face, he jumped in his chair. It was certainly a wonderful moment.

We then had photos taken together  and chatted for a bit before it was time for me to head on to my cabaret rehearsal which was, thankfully, only a few blocks away.

A few tears

Oh yeah, Darren came to that show too, along with members of my family and pockets of other friends. And yes, he shed a few tears when I sang “Reflection” (Darren’s kinda famous for covering Disney music, including the “Princess” songs).

So Darren, many, many thanks again for recruiting me to sing with you for Alan Menken. That was an afternoon I shall always remember, for how much fun it was.
